The First Time I Heard Tim Keller, By Len Sledgeski (Dover, NJ)

I was part of the De Moss House Bible Study (the group which partially formed the foundation of Redeemer) until it ended in 1992. This provided great biblical knowledge and thus, Christian growth under the tutelage of Ron F.

Well, one Wednesday night, Tim Keller and the minister from Spanish River Presbyterian Church (one of our sponsors) came to the group. This was the first time I ever heard him speak. He started by telling us that they had been “running around Manhattan all day looking for an acre and a half of land to start a church.”

He started by telling us that they had been running around Manhattan all day looking for an acre and a half of land to start a Church.

Well, the rest is history. By the way, I mentioned this recollection at a meeting announcing the start of construction of the West Side building, saying that, I was happy that we finally have our “acre and a half” land in Manhattan!
